If the competition at the Premier level is high, the talent building in the U19 is getting up there. Ash Roozendaal delivered some exceptional paddling performances at the NZ Waka Ama Sprint Nationals at Karapiro last week. Taking gold in the 250m and 500m finals to become the NZ U19 Champ. It was always going to be tough, especially going up against team rider Maori Kava Tere, the defending U19 champ from 2015, however Ash was able to maintain a very smooth stroke to keep his canoe in front.
Ash’s success is made even more special for us, as he shared the podium with team riders Maori and Marcel. The future is bright for NZ paddling and we’re stoked that our team riders are leading from the front!
