Congratulations to Mario Mausino for his 12th place finish at the Pa’a Kaiwi OC1 Championships, and a big thanks for taking Strongarm into the channel again. We’re also stoked to have Stephen Roulston and young Kekoa Kaho’okele-Santos out there on their first crossing. This year’s Kaiwi Solo race an epic battle, with some of Tahiti’s top paddlers competing in this legendary race for the first time, the lead up banter was intense across the blogs, with speculation around whether they would race V1 or OC1, and how they would fare in the conditions that the Molokai to Oahu crossing can bring.
In the end the Tahitians dominated, with Steeve Teihotaata taking line honours, just ahead of Danny Ching and Rete Ebb. Mario did well, with the stiff competition out on the water, making the Top 20 was an achievement in itself. Stephen came in 20th place, and Kekoa finishing at 76th still with a smile on their faces in true Strongarm style.
